Description

Elevate store-bought Alfredo sauce by incorporating fresh aromatics, herbs, cheeses, and proteins to create a rich, flavorful, and personalized dish that rivals homemade versions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Fresh Aromatics:
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 small shallot or onion, finely chopped
  • Herbs:
    • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, parsley, or thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • Cheese Enhancements:
    • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan or Pecorino Romano cheese
    • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (optional)
    • ¼ cup shredded Asiago or Fontina cheese (optional)
  • Dairy Additions:
    • ¼ cup heavy cream or milk
    • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Herbs and Spices:
    • A pinch of nutmeg
    • Crushed red pepper flakes, to taste
    • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Proteins (optional):
    • 1 cup cooked grilled or sautéed chicken, shrimp, or Italian sausage
  • Vegetables (optional):
    • 1 cup steamed broccoli florets, sautéed mushrooms, or spinach

Instructions

  • Sauté Aromatics:

    • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and chopped shallot or onion. Sauté until translucent and fragrant, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Add Jarred Alfredo Sauce:

    • Pour the jar of Alfredo sauce into the skillet with the sautéed aromatics. Stir to combine and heat through.
  • Enhance with Dairy and Cheese:

    • Stir in the heavy cream or milk to achieve your desired consistency.
    • Add the freshly grated Parmesan or Pecorino Romano cheese, and if using, the cream cheese and shredded Asiago or Fontina cheese. Stir until the cheeses have melted and the sauce is smooth.
  • Season the Sauce:

    • Add the chopped fresh herbs (or dried, if using), a pinch of nutmeg, crushed red pepper flakes, and freshly cracked black pepper. Stir to incorporate.
  • Incorporate Proteins and Vegetables (Optional):

    • If adding proteins like cooked chicken, shrimp, or sausage, stir them into the sauce until warmed through.
    • For vegetables, gently fold in steamed broccoli, sautéed mushrooms, or spinach until evenly distributed.
  • Serve:

    • Toss the enhanced Alfredo sauce with cooked pasta of your choice. Garnish with additional fresh herbs and grated cheese, if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of heavy cream or milk to achieve your preferred sauce consistency.
  • Feel free to mix and match herbs, cheeses, proteins, and vegetables to suit your taste preferences.
  • For a tangy flavor, consider adding a squeeze of lemon juice or a splash of white wine to the sauce.
