Method
Bake the Cake Layers
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three round cake pans.
- Cream together 1 cup softened butter and 2 cups sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add 4 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 2.5 cups flour and 2.5 teaspoons baking powder.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, alternating with 1 cup milk. Mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly and bake for 25–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes completely before assembling.
Prepare the Doll and Trim the Cakes
- Remove the lower body of the Barbie doll or wrap the legs securely in plastic wrap.
- Use a serrated knife to level the tops of each cake layer.
- For the dome shape, trim the top layer slightly for a smooth transition.
Assemble the Cake
- Place the first layer on a cake board or plate and spread a thin layer of frosting on top.
- Add the second layer and repeat with frosting. Place the dome-layer on top.
- Insert the wrapped Barbie doll into the center of the stacked layers.
- Gently carve the cake layers into a smooth gown shape.
Frost the Cake
- Apply a thin crumb coat to the entire cake and chill in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes.
- Apply a smooth layer of colored buttercream over the entire gown.
Decorate the Barbie Cake
- Use piping bags with decorative tips to create details on the gown.
- Optionally, roll out fondant and drape it over the cake for a polished look.
- Add edible glitter, pearls, or sprinkles for a glamorous effect.
Serve the Barbie Cake
- Chill the cake for about an hour to set the frosting.
- Use a sharp knife to slice carefully from the base, maintaining the gown shape.
Notes
Make sure to practice piping techniques and use room temperature ingredients for best results.
