  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can diced tomatoes Can substitute with fresh chopped tomatoes.
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
Spices
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until it’s no longer pink. Drain grease if necessary.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook until the onion becomes translucent.
  3. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper until they are well mixed.
  4. Toss in the kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Give it a good stir to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil. Then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Ladle the hot chili into bowls and dig in!

Notes

Garnish with fresh chopped cilantro, diced green onions, or a dollop of sour cream. Pairs well with cornbread, tortilla chips, or over hot rice. For storage, allow to cool and transfer to an airtight container. Lasts in the fridge up to 4 days, and freezes for up to 3 months.
