Ingredients
  

Meatball Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef to keep the meatballs from being too greasy.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper
Cheese and Sauce Ingredients
  • 2 cups marinara sauce Any tomato-based sauce can be used.
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Experiment with different cheeses for unique flavor.
  • 4 pieces hoagie rolls Toast slightly to prevent sogginess.
  • Fresh basil For garnish (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Shape this mixture into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter.
Cooking
  1. Heat a bit of oil in a skillet over medium heat and add the meatballs. Cook until browned on all sides.
  2. Pour the marinara sauce over the browned meatballs and let them simmer for about 10 minutes.
Assembly
  1. Slice the hoagie rolls open and place a few meatballs in each roll, topping with marinara sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese.
  2. Place the filled rolls on a baking sheet and add more cheese if desired.
  3. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  4. Garnish with fresh basil before serving hot.

Notes

If you have leftovers, cool completely, wrap tightly, and store in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven for best results.
