Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 10.5 oz can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 14.5 oz cans green beans, drained
  • 1 1/2 cups French fried onions

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • mixing spoon
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • oven
  • measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the diced onion over medium-high heat until beef is no longer pink.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for one minute until fragrant.
  4. Drain excess grease. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, milk, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Mix well.
  5. Fold in the drained green beans and mix to combine.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 25 minutes.
  7. Top with French fried onions and bake for another 5 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

Use fresh or frozen green beans for lower sodium. For a lighter version, try ground turkey and Greek yogurt. Prep ahead and refrigerate the unbaked casserole overnight. Top with cheese for extra richness, or swap the soup for a homemade creamy mushroom sauce.
