Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450g ground beef (85/15 preferred)
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 8 oz 225g cremini or baby bella mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
  • Butter or oil for cooking

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef with diced onion and garlic. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet and sauté until golden and moisture is evaporated.
  4. In a large bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, Worcestershire, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Stir in the cooked beef and mushrooms until well combined.
  6. Spread mixture into prepared casserole dish and top with shredded cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 35–40 minutes.
  8. Uncover and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Try topping with crispy fried onions or breadcrumbs before baking for added crunch. For a heartier version, mix in cooked egg noodles or rice before baking.
