Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups Heavy cream Provides the rich, velvety texture.
  • 5 large Egg yolks Acts as the thickening agent.
  • 1/2 cup Sugar Used for sweetening and caramelizing.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Adds classic flavor to the dessert.
For Caramelizing
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar For creating the caramelized topping.

Method

Preparation
  1. Gently warm heavy cream in a saucepan with vanilla extract, ensuring it doesn’t boil.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale.
  3. Gradually incorporate the warm cream mixture into the egg mixture to avoid curdling.
Baking
  1. Pour the custard mixture into ramekins and place them in a water bath.
  2. Bake in a preheated oven at 325°F (163°C) for approximately 30-40 minutes, until set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  3. Remove from the oven, and let the custards cool before refrigerating for at least 2 hours.
Caramelizing the Top
  1. Sprinkle sugar evenly over the top of each custard before serving.
  2. Using a kitchen torch or broiler, caramelize the sugar until it forms a golden, crackly crust.

Notes

Crème brûlée can be flavored with different ingredients, such as chocolate or citrus zest, for a unique twist.
