Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for best results.
  • 1 medium onion, sliced For added flavor, consider using a yellow onion.
  • 4 slices cheese (American or provolone) Good quality cheese makes a difference.
  • 4 pieces hoagie rolls Alternatively, use garlic bread for a twist.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the onions.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Adjust seasoning based on preference.

Method

Cooking
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and sauté them until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Push the onions to the side of the skillet, then add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  4. Season the beef with salt and pepper according to your taste.
  5. Once the beef is browned, mix it with the onions. Top with cheese slices and cover the skillet until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. While the cheese melts, toast the hoagie rolls until golden and crispy.
  7. Spoon the beef and onion mixture into the toasted rolls and serve hot.

Notes

For variations, consider adding bell peppers or mushrooms. Serve with a side of fries or salad, and dipping sauces like ranch dressing or hot sauce.
