Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Can be substituted with coconut oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar Can substitute half with honey or maple syrup for a healthier option.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest Use freshly grated for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with a gluten-free blend if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, melt the butter. Stir in the sugar until it’s well combined.
  3. Add the eggs one by one, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract, lemon zest, and freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined.
  5. Pour the batter into your prepared dish and spread it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the dish.
  3. For the glaze, whisk the powdered sugar with the lemon juice until smooth. Pour it over the cooled brownies and let it set before cutting them into squares.

Notes

Dust with additional powdered sugar for an elegant touch. Serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra flavor.
