Ingredients

For the Burger Patty
  • 1 lb ground beef, turkey, or plant-based meat Use 80/20 beef for a juicy patty, or opt for leaner turkey or plant-based patties like Beyond Meat.
  • 1 tsp salt Adjust according to taste.
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
For the Wrap
  • 8–10 large lettuce leaves (butter, iceberg, or romaine) Choose sturdy leaves that can wrap around the burger.
  • 1 medium sliced tomatoes
  • 1 medium sliced onions (raw or caramelized)
  • 4 slices pickles
  • 4 slices cheese (optional) Cheddar, Swiss, or American cheese work well.
For the Sauce
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp sugar-free ketchup (optional)

Method

Preparing the Burger Patties
  1. In a large bowl, combine ground meat with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into round, flat patties about ½ inch thick.
  3. Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3–4 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  4. If using cheese, place a slice on top during the last minute of cooking to melt.
Preparing the Lettuce Wraps
  1. Select large, intact lettuce leaves that can hold the patty and toppings. Wash and pat them dry to prevent sogginess.
  2. Use two or more overlapping lettuce leaves for each wrap to ensure they hold together well.
Assembling the Lettuce Wrap Burger
  1. Lay the prepared lettuce leaves flat on a plate.
  2. Place the cooked patty in the center of the lettuce.
  3. Add your choice of sliced tomatoes, onions, pickles, and avocado.
  4. Mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and ketchup to create the sauce, and drizzle it over the toppings.
  5. Fold the lettuce leaves around the burger and toppings, securing them tightly for easy handling.
Serving the Burger
  1. Serve immediately for best texture.
  2. Pair with keto-friendly sides like coleslaw, roasted vegetables, or zucchini fries.

Notes

For best results, use sturdy, dry lettuce leaves and avoid overstuffing the wraps to keep them intact. Consider drizzling with herbs or seasonings for added flavor.
