Ingredients

Cake Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour For the cake base
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar For sweetness
  • 1 cup butter Room temperature, for greasing
  • 4 large eggs For binding the ingredients
  • 1 cup milk For moistness; can substitute buttermilk
  • 2 tsp baking powder For leavening
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract For flavor
For Greasing and Dusting
  • 1 tbsp butter For greasing the bowl
  • 2 tbsp flour For dusting after greasing
  • 1 sheet parchment paper Optional for lining the bottom

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Grease the Pyrex bowl thoroughly with room-temperature butter.
  3. Dust the greased bowl with flour, shaking out any excess.
  4. Optional: Line the bottom of the bowl with parchment paper.
Baking the Cake
  1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, and mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared Pyrex bowl, filling it no more than halfway.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 70 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Let the cake cool in the bowl for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Run a knife around the edges to loosen the cake before inverting it onto a cooling rack.
  3. Trim the rounded base if necessary to create a flat surface for decoration.

Notes

Properly adjust baking time as needed based on bowl size; larger bowls will require longer baking times. Using a toothpick to check for doneness is essential.
