  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's softened for the right texture.
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar Can substitute with coconut sugar or maple syrup.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Consider adding almond extract for more flavor.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup colored sugar (for decoration) Generously sprinkle on top before baking.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the salt, vanilla extract, and eggs until well combined.
  5. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. Stir until just combined.
  6. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them on ungreased cookie sheets, leaving some space in between.
  7. Generously sprinkle colored sugar on top of each ball for that festive touch.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
  2. Allow the cookies to cool on wire racks before serving.

Notes

Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze them for up to three months. Consider serving with lemonade, iced tea, or drizzling with white chocolate for extra flair.
