Ingredients

Danish Ingredients
  • 1 package store-bought puff pastry
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened Can use low-fat or Neufchâtel cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar Optional: additional for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strawberries, sliced Can substitute with other berries
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut it into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
  3. In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  4. Spoon approximately a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each puff pastry heart, leaving a small border around the edges.
  5. Top each heart with sliced strawberries, arranging them nicely.
  6. Carefully fold the edges over slightly to enclose the filling; this gives them a lovely shape.
  7. Brush the tops with the beaten egg for an attractive golden finish.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and puffy.
  9. Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired.
  10. Serve and enjoy your lovely danishes!
