Method
Prepare the Seasoning Mix:
- In a small bowl, combine paprika, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, turmeric, chili powder, coriander, and salt. Mix thoroughly until well blended.
Season the Fish:
- Pat your fish fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Evenly sprinkle the seasoning mix over both sides of the fish fillets, gently pressing it into the flesh to ensure adherence.
Optional Coating:
- For a crispy exterior, dredge the seasoned fish in a light coating of flour or cornmeal. Shake off any excess.
Fry the Fish:
- Heat a suitable frying oil (such as vegetable, canola, or peanut oil) in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Carefully place the seasoned (and optionally coated) fish fillets into the hot oil.
- Fry for 3–5 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the fillets, until the fish is golden brown and flakes easily with a fork.
- Transfer the fried fish to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
Serve:
- Serve the fried fish hot, accompanied by lemon wedges and your choice of sides.
Notes
- Adjust the level of chili powder to control the spiciness of the seasoning.
- This seasoning mix pairs well with a variety of fish, including cod, tilapia, and catfish.
- For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice over the fish just before serving.
